Guest speakers for March:

  • James Sproule, Chief Economist of Handelsbanken UK
  • Steve Diamond, Head of Economic Development at Wandsworth Council
  • Natalie De Silva, CEO at Age UK Wandsworth

James Sproule, Chief Economist for Handelsbanken UK has become a trusted adviser to a wide range of bank clients, as well as being an integral part of the banks broader risk management team. For much of 2019 he was a Senior Business Advisor to Prime Minister Boris Johnson prior to which he worked with several think tanks; between 2014-2017 he was the Chief Economist and Director of Policy at the Institute of Directors. Before the IOD he spent two decades in the city as an economist in merchant banks and consultancies, eventually helping to find the boutique bank Augusta and Company. James started his working life as a signals officer in the Royal Navy, where he remains an honorary Captain. James Sproule was for seven years a visiting fellow in the Department of Management Economics at the London School of Economics.

James will be talking about the UK economic and investment climate, and there will be a chance to ask questions.

Steve Diamond, Head of Economic Development at Wandsworth Council, will provide a local perspective on how economic conditions are impacting the borough.  How have Wandsworth’s town centre’s fared since the pandemic? What has been the impact of the Cost of Living crisis on our communities? What might this mean for the economic wellbeing of the borough’s businesses and residents?

Age UK Wandsworth has been supporting residents across Wandsworth for 60 years. They are an independent, well-established and trusted charity that serves approximately 15,000 residents a year in Wandsworth. Their goal is to help residents age well in Wandsworth and to build confidence and resilience in order to stay living healthily and independently for as long as possible.
They operate with a head office in Wandsworth Town, a day centre in between Wandsworth Town and Wandsworth Common, and two further sites in Roehampton that they use for community outreach.
