With 2022 fast becoming a dim and distant memory, the continuing impact of external forces such as high inflation, the cost-of-living crisis, ongoing talent shortages and the war in Ukraine will make 2023 another difficult year.

These major challenges continue to dominate and we have seen them have a major impact on local businesses.

Combining our experience in the work we do with our clients and current trends in people management, we share our predictions around the risks and opportunities that shouldn’t be avoided this year and we will give you strategies to manage these challenges.

Good people are in short supply

The supply from traditional talent pools is low and retaining talent in a hybrid environment is difficult. Along with the cost-of-living crisis, people are reluctant to move which is leading to less successful recruitment rates.

Managers and leaders that don’t have the right skills are holding businesses back

Recent studies show that the number of employees that leave a business for better development opportunities is the same as those that leave for more pay.

Health and well-being – sometimes what you can’t see has the biggest impact

Recent studies show that nearly 60% of employees are stressed at their jobs every day and the UK loses 131 million working days a year due to ill health according to the CBI.

Recent changes in employment law have serious consequences if they are missed

Fit note digitalisation and changes to right-to-work checks call for a different way of working but have they been picked up? With so many other priorities in 2022, we often come across local businesses that are blissfully unaware.

Join David Hudson on 17th February from 1.00-2.00pm for practical advice on how to avoid risks and how you can capitalise on the opportunities that 2023 will bring. Do bring your questions.

Do you know about the important employment law changes starting from 1st April and how they affect your business?

Join our free 'HR & Employment Law Update webinar on 23rd February to find out what the changes are and what you need to do.

If you want to protect your business from risk, you need to keep up to date with employment law and the Human Resources developments that could affect your business. Every year, on 1st of April, employment law changes. It is the responsibility of every business owner to make sure they are aware of, and compliant with, the current legislation and new changes.

In our interactive webinar, David Hudson who is the owner/founder of The HR Dept Clapham and an HR expert with over 25 years experience, will talk through key areas and recent case law, to provide you with practical tips to take away. He will also update you on the most important human resources issues at the moment and how to practically deal with them. You will leave the webinar with a good overview of what you need to do for your business.

Our topics will include:

• Changes that affect your business from 1st April

• Sexual harassment reforms: What changes are on the horizon and how you can reduce the risk of successful claims

• Right-to-work checks: Where are we now with these processes

• Unfair dismissal: Why is it important to follow procedures

• Employment status: are you classifying people correctly?

• Tribunal cases that could affect your business

We will also have a Q&A session on what problems you are facing.

Why should you attend?

• The time invested in understanding your responsibilities, in comparison to paying £18,000 at tribunal because you didn't do something correctly, is worth it!

• The workshop will be delivered in an interactive way, using practical examples by an HR and leadership expert with over 25 years experience

• You can ask any burning questions you may have and we follow up individually with attendees afterwards

Who is this webinar for?

• line managers or those who have supervisory responsibilities and day-to-day management of others

• new entrepreneurs who are employing their first employee

• business owners who do not want to fall foul of employment law

• anyone wanting to learn more about their HR responsibilities

This free training is for people who live and work in the boroughs of Wandsworth, Richmond, Merton and Kingston in the Night Time Economy. The can include licensed premises like bars/clubs/restaurants to theatres, gyms (many open 24 hours a day) or other evening businesses.

In this free training you will learn the tools to identify and support customers who may become vulnerable, either in venues or on the streets. This is a step further than standard safeguarding training, as it teaches attendees how to deal with specific issues that they may encounter as part of their shift, and is built around real case studies and best practice.

This training also empowers staff to recognise hotspots within their venues, enabling their customers to enjoy a safer night out. The training is focused on group activities encouraging participants to think about the venues they work in and the situations they have experienced.
